Description

From my office closet and  Old Fort Lowell Historic Neighborhood Association's annual antiques fair some ten years ago (and a Tucson estate before) is this Pre Columbian Mexican terracotta head fragment from a votive figure, collected during the 1950's. These genuine souvenirs from another time were once a fairly frequent estate sale find here in the Old Pueblo - not so anymore. The iconography here is Mayan Late Classic, so circa 600-900 CE. Have a look at the pics to see the features are well modeled and the imagery quite powerful - put another way, this is art.  While I normally try to provide a more thorough descriptive accompaniment to the photos, Ebay has drafted new policies regarding such offerings. That said and if you know what's what, you should get the idea. Condition is quite good for the age and ground recovery, with some typical weathering, adhered soil and deeply patinated surfaces. While obviously fragmentary, the head displays very well - mounted on a stand, its presence will be palpable. A look at those pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about in. vertical and in. horizontal. I am doing this as a final sale auction like the old days, so feel free to ask any questions and bid accordingly.
